700,000 Second World War Records Now Online
Exciting news for anyone researching their family history, with a major new opportunity for family historians around the world.
Ancestry.com has made a collection of approximately 700,000 Second World War records available online, potentially opening up new opportunities to discover the stories of relatives who lived and served during the conflict of 1939–1945. Could Your Ancestor Be Among Them?
At Irish-Welsh.com, we know from personal experience, just how valuable these records can be. My own grandfather served in the Royal Army Service Corps (RASC), including service in the Middle East, having initially joined the Territorial Army. Having waited many years for further records to become accessible, I understand the anticipation and excitement that a release like this can bring to family historians and researchers alike.

For many families, the wartime experiences of a parent, grandparent, or other relative remain something of a mystery. Military records can provide important clues about a person's service, movements and experiences, helping us build a fuller picture of their life and the part they played during the war.
Even if you already know something about your relative's military service, newly available records may offer information you have never encountered before. A name, service number, unit or date can sometimes lead to an entirely new avenue of research.
